Halloween Ritual (Talk to Ghosts)
an easy ritual for the ghouls
Whatâs your relationship like to the spiritual realm? Do you connect with your ancestors? Are there rituals or practices that help you receive divine guidance?
No matter your responses to these questions, everyone is capable of forging relationships with mystical beings. In fact, befriending spirits is innately human. Across time and cultures, weâve crafted intricate practices to honor the ones weâve lost. And while these practices have been largely abandoned in the modern, western world, our work as spiritual beings and healers is to revive ancestral connection and weave it back into daily life.

In fact, in a world that aims to eradicate wrinkles and stay âforever young,â forging relationships with ancestors is even more urgent. It allows us to cultivate reverence for the process of aging and the wisdom that comes with it. It prompts us to place more emphasis on our intuitive knowing. It helps us appreciate our lives in the here and now, while also making peace with death. After all, everyone will become an ancestor one day.
Of course, the idea of ancestor communication or spiritual connection can bring up complex feelings around religion and faith. But know that you have the power to reclaim your spirituality and create a mystical framework that works for you. While connecting with the astral realm may sound like a daunting task, itâs actually much closer than you think. Your guides and ancestors want to connect with you. They are waiting to hear from you. They are ready to guide you.
And yet, many of us may not actually know our ancestors at all. Perhaps you were adopted, or have very few records of the past. In any case, that is completely okayâit does not hinder the potency of your ancestral or spiritual connection. In other words, you do not need to have names or photos of your ancestors to connect with them.
And, well, you donât even have to connect with ancestors at all, if that concept doesnât resonate with you. Spirits come in many different shapes and sizes, and you can cultivate a relationship with any entity you feel pulled to.
If youâre not sure who you might be connecting to, check out the below list of mystical entities that you can call upon in your spiritual practice:
The Universe/Goddess/Spirit/God: The singular unifying force that connects everything.
Ancestors: People related to you who have passed on to the other side. This includes people you know and donât know. You can call upon your ancient, primordial ancestors, along with relatives you knew personally.
Higher Self: The most actualized version of youâthe raw existence of your soul without ego.
Deities: Goddesses, gods, and other mythical beings. Perhaps you feel a kinship with figures from Greek and Roman mythology, like Hekate or Venus, or maybe you call upon deities from your birth culture.
Flora & Fauna: There is infinite mysticism, wisdom, and guidance embedded in the natural world. You can call upon any animal, flower, or tree that speaks to you.
Idols: Anyone who inspires you. If youâre a poet, perhaps you call upon the spirit of Mary Oliver. If you love science, maybe you call upon the spirit of Marie Curie.
The act of forging relationships with ancestors and spiritual guides looks different for everyone. You can pray to them, speak to them out loud, write them letters, give them offerings, dedicate an altar to them, hang pictures of them in your home, tell stories about them, etc. Experiment, follow your intuition, and see what resonates with you!
So, are you ready to talk to ghosts? Letâs make some magic!
