If the zodiac is a dinner party, Aries is the invite, Taurus is the menu, and Gemini is the seating chart. The past few weeks have been all about what we say, what we think, who we know. Weโve been collecting data at a rapid rate, accumulating insight from anyone and everyone we encounter.
But, now, itโs time to go deeper. Itโs time to infuse some soul.
Sol. Sun. Summer Solstice.
Itโs always intrigued me that Cancer Seasonโa sign governed by the Moonโkicks off Summer Solstice and the official beginning of summer. Wouldnโt it make sense for this to be ushered in by Leo, the theatrical fire sign ruled by the bright star at the center of our solar system?
On the Summer Solstice, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky at the Tropic of Cancer (23.5ยฐN latitude), bringing the longest day of the year. Conversely, during the Winter Solsticeโwhich begins Capricorn seasonโthe Sun reaches its lowest point at the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5ยฐS latitude), marking the shortest day of the year.
In fact, all the seasonal turning points correspond with zodiac signs:
Summer Solstice occurs on the first day of Cancer Season
Winter Solstice occurs on the first day of Capricorn Season
Spring Equinox occurs on the first day of Aries Season
Autumn Equinox occurs on the first day of Libra Season
Whatโs more, all these seasonal thresholds correspond with cardinal signs. The cardinal signs are associated with initiation, beginnings, and manifestationโand, when one gets activated, the rest follow. When a planet or luminary enters a cardinal sign, it triggers the โworld axis,โ a powerful conduit for magic, as well as personal and collective transformation. This is established at the 0ยฐ placement.
No wonder 2025 is such an important year: Neptune entered Aries at 0ยบ, Saturn entered Aries at 0ยบ, and Jupiter just entered Cancer (another cardinal sign) at 0ยบ. Weโre really in the thick of it now.
Jupiter in Cancer: What It Means For You
One of the *luckiest* transits of 2025 is upon us. This represents a huge energetic shift, as Jupiter leaves the sign of its detriment (Gemini) to bask in the sign of its exaltation (Cancer), where it has everything it needs to thrive.
But that still doesnโt explain why Moon-ruled Cancer commences the summer quarter of this four-pronged system. Thankfully, Jupiter in Cancer makes these philosophical contemplations a bit more accessible.
Iโve been musing about what it means to nurture and be nurtured; all Cancerian things. In astrology, the Sun and Moon represent parents (traditionally, the Sun is your father, and the Moon is your mother)โbut at some point (often without warning) we learn that our parents are no longer our providers. Eventually, we must learn to fend for ourselves. Saturnโthe stoic taskmasterโtakes over, and reminds us that gentle rearing isnโt intended to be forever; who has time for that?
Well, during Summer Solsticeโon the longest day of the yearโwe do have time. Cancer Season reminds us that we deserve to nurture and be nurtured. That gentle affection matters. That we areโat our coreโalways trying to return to that place of tender love and unconditional support.
This week, when the Sun reaches its maximum declination, we have time to show up as caretakers, sharing our love and support and gentleness with all, including ourselves. We have timeโquite literally, maximum sunlightโto get everything done in the day. We donโt have to sacrifice. We have time to both work and rest. We have time to make a meal and digest. We have time to check in with our communityโtending to our lush garden of oversized verdant leaves and vivid wildflowersโand ensure that all people are being treated with dignity and respect.
Indeed, Summer Solstice is both a lunar and solar affair. This week, we are both the mother and the father: a fusion of Cancerโs sensitive moonlight and the Sunโs unrivaled life-giving properties. The Sun and Moon: a complete parental unit. Everything you need to be held.
This week, Iโll be hosting my first Lunar Lodge of the yearโan otherwordly, spiritually replenishing 4-day retreat devoted to astrology, magic, and solar celebration. But if youโre missing this gathering, I have good news: we just opened enrollment for the final Lunar Lodge of 2025, taking place this fall in Californiaโand there are only 5 spots remaining.
This will be the most intimate Lunar Lodge yet. Itโs occurring at the threshold between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice (a moment witches refer to as Samhainโaka Halloween). This desert retreat will be a truly enchanting experience: think ancestral magic, mediumship practice, deep karmic astrology, and powerful sacred circles. Details are here and if youโre feeling the call, I hope youโll join us.
