First thing’s first: let’s discuss the elephant in the room. As you’ve probably noticed, this Substack (formerly known as The Curiosity Report) has been renamed The Practice. We’ve got a cool new logo (courtesy of my dear friend and artist Sofia Szamosi), complete with a brand new color palette (teal—swoon!) and I’m so excited to continue this journey with an inspired look and feel.
You may be wondering why I decided to rename this Substack The Practice, and the answer is quite simple. Spirituality is a practice. The more years I engage with the material—this mystical realm of cosmos and symbolism, poetry and purpose—the more I feel a deep sense of connection, reverence, and commitment to the sanctity of this work. We may dabble in curiosity, but this Substack—and my dedication to you through it—is a practice. Each week, we’ll continue to explore all types of magic, including the celestial, metaphysical, and existential. Plus, we’ll blend the divine with the mundane, unpack complicated human experiences, and challenge what it means to live an extraordinarily mystical life as a mere mortal.
My hope is that The Practice will become part of your practice, too.
And, because there are truly no coincidences (or, as I like to say, TANC), identifying the sacred solidity of this newsletter is ~very~ Taurus coded. This week, the Sun transitions from Aries’ sky into Taurus’ domain, shifting the vibes from impulsivity to stability. Taurus is the first earth sign of the zodiac, and—since earth is connected to all things material, all things corporeal, all things real—Taurus takes the physical world very seriously.
Taurus is a fixed sign, which (like the other fixed signs: Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) occurs in the middle of the season. Fixed energy is about security; it’s about establishing permanence. And, as fixed earth, Taurus values the soil.
Taurus is rooted. It’s grounded. It’s anchored. It’s permanent.
So it’s no surprise that Taurus has a reputation for being stubborn. Once Taurus figures out what works, they simply don’t want to make any adjustments. No notes! Why should we want our favorite things be altered? Why should flexibility override preference? In Taurus’ world, nothing is more important that consistency.
It’s spring, says Taurus. Flowers are blooming. Nature needs no adjustment. Just leave it be.
But that’s why it’s all the more intriguing that this week (the day after Taurus season begins) Jupiter and Uranus form a powerful conjunction at 21º Taurus. In fact, it’s another TANC: The Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is one of the most important astrological happenings of 2024—this alignment only takes places every ~14 years—and it just so happens to be in the sign of Taurus during Taurus season. I mean, what are the odds!
Jupiter is the planet of expansion. Generally, Jupiter is considered an auspicious celestial body, associated with fortune, luck, and life-changing blessings. But Jupiter can also just be more. Jupiter can be excess. Jupiter can be too much. And, when partnered with another planet, it will amplify the other celestial body’s energy exponentially.
So, on April 20 (~4/20~), when Jupiter syncs with Uranus, we can expect a whole lot of Uranian influence. Uranus is associated with innovation, breakthroughs, and technology. It’s raw, unfiltered, unpolished genius. It’s mass communication, electrical generators, high-speed internet. And Uranus is also revolution, rebellion, and freedom, which we know—on a global level—is desperately needed. Permanent ceasefire now. Perhaps that’s exactly the kind of powerful gift this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction will deliver?
Taurus is associated with the physical earth, so this conjunction could accelerate the land-back movement and support large-scale decolonization. On the other hand, Taurus—archetypically speaking—can tend towards conservatism. Taurus’ glyph, the bull, is the literal symbol of Wall Street. Likewise, Taurus is associated with money, resources, and material wealth. Perhaps this transit will benefit revolutions in lucrative technology ventures, like AI or the next iteration of the Metaverse? Perhaps Bitcoin will finally reign supreme. Or, maybe crypto-currency will collapse in favor of a more traditional exchange? After all, precious metals—the stuff of the earth—is very Taurean.
There are an infinite number of ways astrological transits can manifest—and whether something like the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is “positive” or “negative” is ultimately a matter of perspective. Is “revolution” a good thing? It depends where you’re sitting. Considering the rapidly escalating climate crisis, I think we’re overdue for widespread legislative and corporate change—an ecological revolution. But Trump supporters who stormed the Capital on January 6 also believed in their cause; they thought the end of democracy was the right kind of revolution. And what a vibe that was.
But that’s the thing about astrology: it exists beyond the socio-political spectrum.
It simply is.
So, let’s hope that this upcoming Jupiter-Uranus conjunction catalyzes change that aligns with the highest and greatest good. Change that is rooted in social justice. Change that that is fueled by liberation. Change that is grounded in sustainability. And equitability. And inclusivity. Change that supports collective freedom.
If you’re curious about what this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction means for you individually, locate 21º Taurus in your birth chart, and notice which House it occupies, along with any planets or points it aspects. Wherever this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction occurs will radically transform that area of your life, bringing unexpected change, creative surges, and the possibility of new resources. You may also reflect on what was going on in your life during the last Jupiter-Uranus conjunction. The dates were June 8, 2010 at 0º Aries; September 18, 2010 at 28º Pisces; and January 4, 2011 at 27º Pisces.
I’m hosting a special workshop for the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction this Thursday, April 18 at 8PM EST in the Constellation Club (replays will be available). We’ll be unpacking this transit, exploring what it means for you, and—through a series of exercises—learning how to tap into energy (especially in the wake of this most recent Eclipse Season). Register here. I hope to see you there!

My current scented candle obsession is Peace Out by Milk Reclamation Barn—an earthy, warm, musky scent that’s literally perfect for Taurus Season.
I’ve officially landed on my “season” via color analysis. I’m a bright winter, which is great to know! It was just a little confusing because, IRL, i’m a summer witch. So it took me a second to accept these different systems. You know the vibe!!! Anyway, what’s your color season?!
