Tuesday, May 7 1:42AM ET: Sun (17° Taurus) sextile Saturn (17° Pisces)
Tuesday, May 7 11:22PM ET: New Moon in Taurus (18°)
This week, we have an abundant New Moon in Taurus, which may prove to be most auspicious lunation of the year. Tall order, I know, but it’s true.
Of course, all lunar phases are magical and sacred in their own special way. But the overall chart (aka what’s going on with all the other planets in the sky during a lunation) heavily influences the energy of the Moon. And sometimes the overall chart invites spiritual lessons by way of heavy-hitting discoveries, difficult conversations, or profound tension—both real and imagined. These might be considered more “challenging” lunations.
But, other times, the chart is lush and distinctive; like the aroma of your favorite expensive perfume. It’s floral and woody. It’s powdery and refined. It’s familiar and exotic. It’s a full-bodied, sensory experience. And that’s exactly what what the New Moon in Taurus offers.
I’m so smitten by this lunation that I’ve decided to breakdown all the loveliness embedded into the chart. And then, of course, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts: All these distinctive pieces work together harmoniously to create a delightfully favorable sky, ripe for manifesting and forward motion.
So, here’s why this New Moon is extra delightful, and why you should absolutely work with its energy:
1. New Moons are about beginnings.
New Moons kickoff the 29.5-day lunar cycle. During this phase, the Sun and Moon form an aspect known as a “conjunction,” which means they meet at the same point in the sky. The energy blends during a conjunction, with each celestial body fusing its mission with the other. So, in the case of a New Moon, our external experience (the Sun) melds with our internal experience (the Moon).
I like to imagine New Moons as the starting line for a race, with the pistol firing off at the exact moment of the conjunction. Go! The Moon is very quickly going to outrun the Sun; the Moon completes an orbit over 12x faster than the astrological Sun1. So as the Moon speeds across the sky, moving through various zodiac signs, it carries the energy from that initial meeting—that foundational conjunction—along with it. Likewise, New Moons are about beginnings. They’re an excellent time for planting seeds, setting intentions, and honing the manifestations you want to unfold across the full lunar cycle.
2. This is the first New Moon since Eclipse Season.
In case you blocked it out forgot, this year’s Eclipse Season came in hot and heavy. (The Lunar Eclipse was on March 25 and the Solar Eclipse was on April 8, so Eclipse Season lasted from March 18 through April 15.) The Eclipses were on the Aries-Libra axis, which means they were primarily focused on autonomy and alliances.
Now, on the other side of Eclipse Season, we’re invited to integrate the lessons through the Taurus-Scorpio axis, which is focused on birth and rebirth (and, as I wrote about a few weeks ago, poop) . The most recent Full Moon in Scorpio (Tuesday, April 23) was a heavy one: Pluto—the planet of transformation—was involved, so it exposed what we needed to release, relinquish, and remove from our lives.
This is the first New Moon since the Eclipses and that the laxative laden Full Moon that was about letting go. Finally, we’re invited to welcome new energy, new possibilities, and new hope back into our lives. Blessed be!
3. The Moon is in its exaltation in Taurus.
The Moon loves to be in Taurus. In fact, through a system known as “essential dignities,” the Moon is its happiest place in the sign of Taurus.
Essential dignity is an astrological technique first developed in ancient times that describes planetary strengths and weaknesses in relation to specific zodiac signs. While each planet has its own unique set of significations (in other words, the things the planet does—the role it plays in our chart), the way in which these significations are expressed is shaped by the zodiac sign it occupies. There are four essential dignities: domicile (when a planet is in its comfortable home base), detriment (when a planet is in challenging, unchartered territory), exaltation (when a planet is in its version of paradise), and fall (when a planet is essentially lost at sea).
When a celestial body is in its exaltation, it doesn’t just survive… it thrives. The Moon (symbolizing emotions, safety, and nurture) relishes Taurus’ need for comfort, stability, and cozy groundedness. The Moon wants to be taken care of, and—no shade to Cancer (the Moon’s domicile sign)—but Taurus offers a different type of comfort; one that’s rooted in pleasure, sensory experiences, and earthily delights. So, naturally, the Moon says oui oui to Taurus. It simply loves to be there!
4. Venus is in its domicile in Taurus.
Pleasure!? Sensory experiences?! Earthily delights!? Step aside, says Venus, this is my domain. Venus—the planet of love, beauty, values, and all that we desire—rules Taurus, which means there’s an inextricable link between this planet and sign. Venus is in it domicile in Taurus, and—in this New Moon chart—Venus is, in fact, located in the sign of Taurus. How very auspicious.
So, in this New Moon chart, we have both the Moon and Venus (the only two female archetypes of the traditional celestial bodies!) located in Taurus, which makes them—individually and collectively—very happy. And, due to this alignment, both the sensitive Moon and sensual Venus are poised to support our personal hopes, dreams, and wishes.
TL;DR: When the Moon and Venus are happy, we’re happy. And both of these planets are thriving in Taurus in this New Moon chart.
5. We’re still revolutionizing thanks to the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus.
Feeling like it’s time for—oh, I don’t know—massive upheaval? Join the club. On April 20, Jupiter (the planet of expansion) and Uranus (the planet of innovation) met at 21º Taurus, kicking off a brand new 14-year cycle based on revolution and reinvention. (I wrote about the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction here.)
Remember the starting race we talked about earlier? (And that freaky AI image I couldn’t help but include?) Well, these two are also off on their own journey post-conjunction, and Jupiter—the faster moving celestial body—is amplifying the wisdom. It wants to create new, lucrative opportunities by redefining our relationship with values.
Jupiter and Uranus have prominent roles in this New Moon chart, completing the powerful Taurus stellium (a stellium is four or more planets in the same sign or House) and sprinkling some unexpected fortune into the equation.
6. Saturn actually wants to help.
You know those good fathers? Dads who are helpful? Supportive? Who show up to concerts and recitals because they genuinely care? Who offer unconditional compassion, nonjudgemental support, and functional guidance? That’s the ideal daddy and, in this New Moon chart, Saturn is actually stepping up to the plate.
Saturn is—always—the daddy of the cosmos. Saturn is also Father Time and the Grim Reaper; archetypes that underscore life’s impossible ephemerality. Saturn is probably best known for its legendary orbit, the 29.5-year cycle known as the the Saturn Return, when we—at that same age—are forced to accept our fate as fully formed adults. No coddling. No handholding. No pacifiers. It’s time to grow up.
Saturn has been moving through Pisces’ ethereal domain since 2023. This is a very oddball combination. Saturn is obsessed with boundaries, and Pisces is infamously boundless. Indeed, Saturn’s been forced to ~loosen up~ since it entered this sign, maybe even staying up after hours for a few late night guitar jams. Yes, Saturn in Pisces is our collective boomer dad reliving his groovy glory days.
And, during this New Moon, Saturn is making a very tight, positive aspect to the Sun and Moon at 17º Pisces. Forming a harmonic sextile, this nostalgic boomer Saturn is actually inspired to help us reach our goals. It wants us to come up with a plan. It wants to help us make it work in a real, tangible way. It believes in us. Frankly, this is Saturn at its best: All of the solidity, none of the doom-and-gloom. We love to see it.
7. There’s a beautiful Mercury-Chiron conjunction that supports healing.
Mercury has gone through a lot over these past few weeks—namely, a retrograde in the sign of Aries that made everyone flustered. During this time, as Mercury (the planet of communication) went forwards, backwards, and forwards again, it connected with Chiron, which has been in Aries since 2019.
Chiron is a powerful celestial body in our birth chart that illuminates our deepest wounds, as well as our greatest strengths. Chiron reveals how we can alchemize our pain, transforming it into superpowers that has the potential to heal self and others. Chiron plays a pivotal role in our self-actualization journey.
On the exact day of the New Moon, Mercury will form its final conjunction with Chiron. (The first occurred on March 20, and the second took place on April 15.) Accordingly, this New Moon also presents an opportunity for us to finally express something we’ve been afraid to share. Or, perhaps we’ll have the courage to name the wound and reclaim our personal agency. Or, we’ll become the teacher, inspiring others to celebrate their journeys, honoring their past as they envision a vibrant future.
No matter how this conjunction manifests, it offers a beautiful, sensitive, and soulful energy to the New Moon that emboldens Mercury with genuine purpose. This cosmic influence reminds us that our words have meaning. Our stories matter.
This New Moon looks… amazing?!
It does, doesn’t it? With these planets making such harmonious connections, this New Moon feels exceptionally positive. Although the cosmos can certainly surprise us with unexpected (and sometimes undesirable) outcomes—and every person will, of course, metabolize the energy individually—I would absolutely encourage you to take advantage of this lunation.

The astrological Sun refers to the Sun tracked in astrology, which is a geocentric system that tracks the movement of the Sun from our perspective here on planet Earth. The Sun, of course, doesn’t orbit; it’s a stationary luminary at the center of our solar system. In Western astrology, the Earth’s orbital speeds and motions are applied to the Sun.
My descendant "tail" is at 28 degrees Taurus, 7th House. Been working on boundaries with ze hubs.
My big plan is to put together a healing bundle for one of my sister priestesses who is going through a major life shift right now. She's needing all the support she can get!
18° Taurus is in my 12H, I have no other planets in Taurus. However my best friend has her natal Mars at 18° Taurus in her 5H.
